HNW = How I Felt

Static Park - How I Felt

I said I'd be back to pure static noise soon enough and here it is... HNW made with (mainly) the Fairfield 4 Eyes Fuzz and the Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff Nano, with the distortion pretty low so that you can hear the source rattle along...

I was aiming for an endless ''Little Fury Things'' scree but in the end I guess it's a bit too clean for that.. anyway, that's exactly how I felt.

"Mess" Gear

FWF Systems Piezo Mic

This piezo mic is the noise-maker of choice of Charlotte Skrobek, who records and plays live as The Girl With The Stanley Knife. For more info about her releases you can check out Ink Runs Recordings. We also have a collaborative static noise project called Flesh Clocks.

FWF Systems is a French brand and I think these mics are designed to amplify Kora musicians.

New track "Mess"

Static Park - Mess

This track was made with basicallly the same set-up as Sky, Chords And Lines, Fender Strat on one side and Zvex Fuzz Factory + Digitech Death Metal on the other. This time the noise source is a FWF Systems Piezo Mic played by The Girl With the Stanley Knife.

Sample Park - Handmade Beats = a collection of hip-hop instrumentals FREE DL

Sample Park - Handmade Beats

Here is something different.. I made a selection from the zillions of Hip-Hop instrumentals I made these last months with a sampler and an electric bass. These are pretty lo-fi Boom-Bap beats, full of jazz and weird samples so I decided to « release » them under the Sample Park banner because there simply is no static here. At least no voluntary static..

I think I've got some more stuff like this in me for the future but I'll be back to HNW pretty soon... In the meantime : This is what it is...

The collection can be downloaded for free from Bandcamp. Enjoy !

PS : If you want to use one of these for whatever reason, just mention my name somewhere and link me up. THX

Reading

Is It My Body ? - Kim Gordon - Sternberg Press

Going on with the Sonic Youth tip these days, listening to old albums and reading this newish collection of texts by Kim Gordon. These are articles / essays about music (so far I've read the ones about Rhys Chatham, Glenn Branca and No Wave), feminism, visual arts... As expected KG is a fine writer, not striving for Academic forced obscurity but rather very clear and heartfelt.

Sky, Chords and Lines - Gear

So yeah I pulled out the Death Metal again... Not the most cohesive static ever but it's easy to create a dark atmosphere with one line of DM and I thought it was nice for 5 minutes.. + Obvious inspiration for the guitar parts (especially "Like Letters")

I started playing some guitar again with a good friend who's also a fine bass player.. we play noisy rock over a drum-machine (for the moment) so I guess that's where the urge to do these recordings came from.. My guitar has been thrown at walls, on the floor and stabbed with a knife numerous times during noise gigs in the past but it won't even get completely out of tune, that's how reliable an instrument it is...

Sky, Chords and Lines

Static Park - Sky, Chords and Lines
Static Noise / Electric Guitar improvisations, keeping it fairly minimal though... I'm using a Fender Stratocaster played through a Vox AD30 amp. On the static side, it's Boss Metal Zone ("Like Letters") and Digitech Death Metal ("Shrink"). I had not used the DM in a very long time. I guess I got a bit tired of it from using it too much when it was my only distortion with the Grunge. That and the fact that it's complicated for me to isolate the frequencies I want with it (too much bass / mid residue even after equalizing)

I Don't See It - Gear

Super Crunch Box by MI Audio

I usually place the Crunch Box right before the main distortion to play around with the tone and presence of the source. However on the I Don't See It EP I used it as the only distortion, pushing the gain a little...

I Don't See It EP

Static Park - I Don't See It EP

I'd been wanting to do this for quite some time: layering some static noise with beats... I kept it really simple: overdriven drum-machine + a pedal I rarely use (almost) on its own: the Super Crunch Box by MI Audio. Same set-up with different settings for both tracks. Reading

La Dernière Vague - Surf, skateboard & custom cultures in contemporary art - 19/80 Editions - 2013

The book serves as a catalogue for the exhibition, which was part of the This is (not) Music project organised in 2013 at La Friche De Mai in Marseilles, FR. So far, a fine collection of classic skateboard visuals and related street-art.

Endless Grind Gear

Source: Short-Wave Radio

Fuzz: Fairfield 4 Eyes

Distortion: Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff Nano

Static Park - Endless Grind on Bandcamp

Static Park - Endless Grind

This is the first release by my new project Static Park, available as a free download HERE !

With this project I want to do very simple things that focus on only a handful of elements at a time: a couple pieces of gear, a feeling I've got... I want to record it as an occurence and be able to say: "this is what came out"...

"Rubble" was made using a 4 Eyes Fuzz + Digitech Grunge pedal, "Out Of It" is the 4 Eyes + Electro-Harmonix Metal Muff pedal. Both use a little EQ.
